From chapter nine and beyond Malcom X goes through some personal growth and changes of views on different topics. Earlier in life he would se the discrimination acts on him and his family as a direct personal attack. While in prison Malcom beggins to understand that past actions taken on him and his family are more of an attack on his race rather than personally. He now sees all black people as victims of racism not just of himself. Malcom also converts to Islam and feels that his criminal past was neccesery to be in order to have found this new rightsouse path which he now is in. During his time at Massachusetts state prison he continues through this religious growth. When Malcom is moved to where there are less violent prisoners and with a bigger libary now available he begans to vigoursly study many different subjects.
Malcom wanted to improve his writing skills and vocabulary which he does by grabbing a hold of a dictionay. After going over it for a couple of days he doesn't even know what vocabulary it is that he wants to learn and beggins to copy the entire dictionary by hand. By expanding his vocabulary and learning other things from the dictionary which he see's as an encyclopedia makes him more hungry for knowledge. Malcom became very entigued with reading and learning through the books which he read. Even though he was imprisoned but because of reading and understanding what he now reads he goes on to say that he actually has never felt to free in life before.
Malcom X is then released and he is willing to take these newly learned tools of his and put them to use. He was now ready to face and carry his new religious and political life. Malcom to tries to make a strong image of himself to instill fear. He begings to climb up the ranks of the Nation of Islam and is very pursuasive to many in part because of his usage of language and slang common among those which he tried pursuaded.
